URBAN YOGA IN LEIPZIG – 7 GREAT YOGA STUDIOS IN THE SAXON CITY

Yoga in Leipzig! Are you visiting the Saxon city and looking for an extraordinary yoga course or a beautiful yoga studio in Leipzig? I'll show you where to find them!
Art, culture, culinary highlights? You can find plenty of all these in the East of Germany! However, if you don't feel like visiting the somewhat overwhelming Berlin, perhaps you should instead head over to Leipzig. The excellent range of activities you will find here really are as good as anywhere in Germany. You will not be disappointed in spending time in this attractive Saxon city. I should point out that this is not just my own personal opinion: Leipzig also got a special mention in the New York Times, where they unceremoniously put this industrially charming city on their coveted list of international must-sees!
Quite rightly so: In Leipzig you will find baroque old town charm, including historical and cultural monuments as well as some of the most beautiful buildings in the country. (Music lovers are warmly recommended a visit to the St. Thomas Church!) All such fascinating sights are to be found alongside the large-scale industrial architecture. Speaking of which, especially in the trendy districts of Connewitz and Plagwitz, eccentric night owls, alternative culture lovers and extroverted spirits can find their new all-time favorite feel-good place within the numerous factories, squares and lofts that have been expertly converted into cafes, restaurants, bars or clubs. For example how about checking out Täubchenthal, the Distillery or the Conne Island?
Somehow it goes without saying that the yoga scene in Leipzig is also very colorful, vibrant and extraordinarily diverse and there is plenty of choice for resident or visiting yogis – whether you are into aerial yoga, experimental board yoga or dynamic vinyasa flow, you can have fun seeking out some of the most beautiful yoga studios in Leipzig!
And by the way: Many yoga studios in Leipzig offer a diverse program of yoga courses during the pandemic - with online yoga!
Yoga in Leipzig: The 7 best yoga studios in Leipzig – online and offline
1. AllesYoga

Urban Yoga at its best: The beautiful allesyoga can be found right in the bustling city centre of Leipzig – but don't worry: even though the bright studio is located in the middle of the action, the two course rooms with a calming view of the backyard still offer yogis and yoginis a relaxed atmosphere with a cozy practice in small to medium-sized groups. In their Hatha and Vinyasa courses, the teachers employed by owner Verena attach great importance to dogma-free practice, which basically means that Yoga should simply be fun and everyone should and can practice here as he or she likes – whether in the classes or in any of the various superb workshops. (this year, for example, there are several great workshops with Michael J. Stewart, the founder of Shanta Vira Yoga!)

2. Studio Veda

In my opinion, the Studio Veda has one of the most beautiful and varied timetables in the Leipzig yoga scene. In addition to courses in Vinyasa Flow or Restorative Yoga, the main focus of the studio south of the city centre is on Barre Veda – a dynamic full-body training that combines elements from Pilates, yoga, ballet and fascia training. Through the systematic and particularly careful sequence of muscle exercises and balancing stretches, you achieve a defined body and a sustained, positive body awareness – I have myself been a huge fan of this style since my first barre yoga class in Fort Worth and I find it the perfect training addition for all yogis, who enjoy stretching a lot. Big plus point: if necessary, the team will teach some of the courses in English!

3. Ashtanga Yoga Loft Leipzig

Is the challenging Ashtanga Yoga your favorite yoga style? Then the Ashtanga Yoga Loft Leipzig is the perfect place for you! This beautiful studio really lives up to its name with its charming brick walls, rustic beams and high ceilings and it offers, in addition to the classic Mysore classes (in which everyone practices at their own pace), lots of courses for beginners and classes in Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga. Anyone who has never practiced yoga or Ashtanga Yoga in particular, should first of all attend the beginners' course to familiarize themselves with the style – after all, Ashtanga yoga is characterized by a set sequence of asanas that are connected by a flowing sequence of movements. Getting to know these sequences will then make your practice a little easier. Also good to know: The multilingual team here offers courses not only in German or English, but also in Italian and Slovak if required – welcome to international flair in the middle of Leipzig!

4. Chamundi Yoga

Free from giddiness? Then off into the air – at Chamundi Yoga Leipzig it is all about cloth yoga! Classic asanas are practiced within the trapezoidal cloth that is attached to the ceiling which, thanks to the loops and handles, offers a stable way to hold on. Parts of the body can be relieved by practicing in the cloth and even asanas that have been difficult up to then can be practiced almost weightlessly and without fear. The offer of the studio in the lively Südvorstadt area is huge – that way, not only already experienced yogis can practice here, but also complete beginners can try themselves out in the balance. By the way: especially those suffering from back problems and long-term patients with intervertebral disc issues like me should try this type of yoga – relieving the different parts of the back is a real treat and a great addition to your own back-friendly practice!

5. Yogarausch

Yogarausch is located in the east of the city in the Reudnitz district – studio owner Michael is a specialist in the dynamic Vinyasa Flow and traditional Ashtanga Yoga. These two styles are on offer in different classes depending on level and experience for both newcomers and also for advanced yogis. While in Ashtanga Yoga (at least in the traditional teaching variant) each yogi usually practices on their own and the teacher helps verbally with the help of adjustments throughout the lesson, yogis in Vinyasa classes will be guided totally throughout the entire practice. Hungry after the sweaty flow? The wonderful Green Soul is just a short walk away – the perfect gourmet spot for all veggie yogis!
